Maker 13, LLC Opens in Jeffersonville
JEFFERSONVILLE, IN. (November 14, 2016) – Maker 13, LLC, an innovative makerspace, celebrated its grand opening located at 629 Michigan Ave. in Jeffersonville with a ribbon cutting hosted by One Southern Indiana (1si). The event was attended by 1si President and CEO, Wendy Dant Chesser, 1si Ambassadors and staff and the public.
Maker 13, LLC, owned by John & Christy Riley and Brian & Lauren Niehoff, came into incorporation on July 23, 2015. Its Maker Mobile is what prompted the two couples to open the community workshop, Maker 13 and it continues to support and serve the Southern Indiana and Louisville Metro community. The workshop is geared to help promote manufacturing, skilled labor, and creativeness.
John and Brian stated the goal of Maker 13 is to give the Southern Indiana community access to new technology and equipment. They stated that by not having the resources such as a machine, training or lack of product viability, people now gain access to technology which will hopefully spur innovation, create an interest in advanced manufacturing, give artisans the tools they need to design and create, and develop a labor force for the surrounding businesses.
The owners credit the City of Jeffersonville in helping them find the 5,000 sq. ft location for workshop and an additional 5,000 sq. ft for future small business co-working space. Maker 13 anticipates hiring 10-15 part-time employees.
